New Bway.net Dial-up Numbers - Effective Immediately
NOTE: Please print or store a copy of this letter for reference, in the event that you are unable to make the necessary changes to your dial-up settings before our current dial-up numbers are disabled. In the spirit of "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade," we have decided to move our dial-up lines from one telephone company (AT&T) to another (Focal Communications), in response to AT&T quadrupling its rates. This will cause our subscribers the relatively minor inconvenience of changing the phone numbers in your dial-up settings, while on the positive side Bway.net will not have to raise its prices and we will also be able to offer local dial-up to the northern half of New Jersey at no extra cost. We've also been very impressed so far with the quality of service from Focal. The new phone numbers are listed below and we will also have them on the website at http://www.bway.net/bway/dialupnumbers/local.html. We have on-line help for dial-up configuration for most operating systems available under "Windows Resources" or "Macintosh Resources"; both sections are linked from http://www.bway.net/bway/help/index.html. Human tech support is also available from 9:30-7 seven days a week at (212) 982-9800. You should be able to begin using the new numbers immediately and we would recommend making the changes right away. Our old numbers will be forwarded to the new lines, but we are not sure precisely when that will take place. We are also not sure exactly when the current lines will be disconnected by AT&T. For those reasons we recommend using the new numbers and sticking with those settings (unless you are reading this note in mid-September, at which point you may not need to make any changes at all...). Because there are no more numbers available in 212, the 646 area code will be a local call for Manhattanites, while those of you previously dialing 718 will need to use a 347 number. We ask that anyone using Telia dial-up in New Jersey please switch to the Bway numbers since it will be cheaper for us and faster for you. We are still waiting for Focal to provide a lookup program that will indicate which number is a local call based on the number you are calling from, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please call your local telephone provider (probably Verizon). |
