Frequently Asked Questions
What is my e-mail address?

Your email address is USERID@bway.net, where USERID is the name you log in with (the exception is domain accounts - your full username is your full email address). It is necessarily all lowercase. You can use any mail reader that understands "POP" to send and receive mail (eg. Eudora, Netscape, Outlook.), or use our webmail.

Where is my web page?

Your generic web page is in your home directory, which is named "/home/#/USERID/html/index.html," where "#" is the first letter of your user ID. You will be automatically taken to your default directory when you start your FTP session. This page can be changed and customized by you. Simply download it with FTP from the aforementioned directory, make your changes, save them, place it back in your home directory and check to make sure it worked. Don't forget to "reload" or "refresh" the web page in your browser. Like always feel free to give us a call if you have any problems.

How do I access my web page?

If you have a personal account, the URL for your web page is: "http://home.bway.net/USERID". The previous URL of "http://www.bway.net/~USERID/" will still work, but hey, isn't the new "home.bway.net" URL easier to type? And you never have to explain to people what a "tilde" is.

Is there any specific software I need to access my Bway account?

Not at all. One of the many pleasures of using an Internet Service Provider (ISP) as opposed to an on-line service is you can use whatever Internet software you prefer or feel comfortable with.

The Web space with my personal dial-up account is listed as being "non-commercial only." What does this mean?
This Web space is for a personal homepage, and cannot be used to advertise or market for any business or organization, whether profit or non-profit. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact sales@bway.net

What should I have ready when I call technical support?

1. Make sure that you know your bway.net username and password.

2. You should be in front of your computer. You should be able to specify to your technical representative which operating system you are using (Windows '95-'2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Macintosh Classic, Macintosh OS-X, OS/2 or UNIX). You should also know the make, model and speed of the modem you are using. You should also have a pen and pad ready, for notes, and you should ask for and take down the name of the technical representative you are dealing with.

3. Before calling, do a quick check of your settings to make sure that nothing has been accidently changed.

4. Remember - Bway.net technical support is provided for bway.net related issues only. We do not support any third party software, HTML or other Web-based programming, CGI-BIN, browser plug-ins, hardware issues, etc.

5. To save time, check the bway.net help pages for your topic before calling technical support.

6. If you received an error message, please write down the exact wording so that you can tell your bway.net technical representative.

7. Think about any changes that have been made to your system before the problem occurred, for instance, are you using a new modem? Or, are you using any new software?

8. If you are not a new Bway.net customer, and you suddenly have problems with your password, it is likely that your account has been suspended due to non-payment. Make sure that your payments are up to date, and if you have any questions give us a call at (212) 982-9800.
