Configure the Modem Control Panel
- Click on the apple at the upper left corner of your screen.
- Move your cursor to Control Panels
- Move your cursor to Modem and click.

You probably won't need to change anything here, but make sure:
- ...that Modem Port is selected for the Connect via: option
- ...that the correct modem model is selected (it probably already is).
- You can turn the modem's sound on or off here.
- Chose Tone or Pulse according to the type of phone service you have. Almost no one has pulse anymore, so it's probably tone.
- Close the window by clicking the little box at the upper left. If you get a prompt asking if you want to save the changes, click Save.
Configure the TCP/IP Control Panel
- Click on the apple (upper left corner of your screen)
- Move your cursor to Control Panels
- Move your cursor to TCP/IP and click.

- "Connect via:" should be set to PPP
- "Configure" will set itself to Using PPP server
- For "Name Server addr.:" type 216.220.96.17, hit return, and then type 216.220.96.18
- For Search domains: type bway.net (in lowercase letters).
- Close the window by clicking the little box at the upper left. If you get a prompt asking if you want to save the changes, click Save.
Configure the Remote Access Control Panel
- If your Control Strip isn't open, open it up by clicking the little home-plate-shaped pull tab thing at the lower left of your screen.
- Click the control strip's Remote Access button - the one with the brown telegraph pole.

- Move your cursor up to where it says Open Remote Access and click.

- Make sure Registered User and not "guest" is selected.
- Type your username (all lower case) where it says Name.
- If you're calling one of our out-of-area dialup numbers (click here for details and numbers), enter it in this form: username@bway.net
- Enter your password (remember, it's case sensitive).
- Check Save password if you like.
- Enter the dialup number (click here for local or out-of-area numbers).
- Click the Options button, and then the Redialing tab.

- Set Redial: to Off.
- Click the Connection tab.

- The only box that should be checked is Flash icon in menu bar while connected.
- Click the Protocol tab.

- Use protocol: should be set to PPP. If you don't have the "Use protocol:" item, don't worry about it.
- Two boxes should be checked: Allow error correction and compression in modem and Use TCP header compression.
- Click OK.

- You're all set. If you wish to go online now, click Connect. Once you're connected, the apple at the upper left corner of your screen will flash alternately with a telegraph pole.
- If you don't want to go online at this time, close the window by clicking the little box at the upper left. If you get a prompt asking if you want to save the changes, click Save.
- Once you've got Remote Access configured, you don't have to open up its control panel every time you want to dial up. Just click the Remote Access button on your control strip:

- ...move your cursor up to where it says Connect, and click. Your modem will start dialing without the Remote Access control panel opening up.
