| 1. What is WebMail ? WebMail allows you to access your Bway mailbox from a web page from anywhere in the world. | |
| 2.How do I access WebMail ? Go to https://webmail.bway.net in your web browser. Login with your Bway username or your full email address (if you have a domain mailbox) and your password. |
| 3. What are all these other folders ? Your Bway mailbox consists of several folders which are automatically created when the mailbox is created. These help organize your email. Your main folder is the INBOX - this contains your incoming mail. The Sent folder contains messages you have sent from WebMail (unless you have switched that off). The Trash folder contains messages and folders that have been deleted from within WebMail (unless you have switched that off). If your mailbox was migrated from the old server there may be additional folders which were brought over from your old mailbox. If you have spam filtering enabled, you may also find a Spam folder. | |
| 4. How do I create my own folders ? Click on Folders (top of page) and enter a folder name in the Create Folder box then click the Create button. Folders can be nested inside other folders - this is what the as subfolder of pulldown allows you to do. |
| 5. How do I delete folders ? Click on Folders (top of page), select the folder to delete by clicking on the [Select a folder] pulldown in the Delete Folder box, then click the Delete button. |
| 6. How do I tell WebMail not to use Trash or Sent folders ? Click on Options (top of page), then click on Folder Preferences. Under the Special Folder Options you can select the [Do not use Sent] or [Do not use Trash] options in the pulldowns next to the Trash Folder: or Sent Folder:. Dont forget to click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save this setting. |
| 7. How do I sort my inbox ? When looking at your inbox, you will see little icons next to the column headings (From, Date, Subject, etc). A blue arrow icon shows the current sorting being used. You can click on the blue arrow to "reverse" the sorting. Clicking on it again will make it revert back to normal (i.e. non-reverse) sorting. Clicking on a gray box icon, next to a column heading changes the sorting to sort by that column, i.e. clicking on the gray icon next to the From heading will sort by sender email address - the gray icon will be replaced by a blue arrow to indicate the current sort column. Note: sorting is not available when using the threaded view feature.
| 8. What is Thread View ? Thread View is where emails are grouped by subject, each group being shown as a "tree" of messages in date order. This allows you to follow an email discussion by following the tree of messages. To switch on threading, click on Thread View, just above the column headings. Click on Unthread View to switch back to the default view. |
| 9. How do I increase the number of messages displayed on each page ? The default setting is show an index of 25 messages. You can increase or decrease this by clicking on Options (top of page), then Display Preferences. Under the Mailbox Display Options, change the number in the Number of Messages to Index field to a larger or smaller value then scroll down and click the Submit button to save your changes. |
| 10. How do I show all the messages in a folder ? Click on the Show All link above the column headings. Note: If you have a lot of messages in your folder, it might take a long time for your browser to load the index when Show All is enabled so use this function sparingly. |
| 11. How do I switch back to the paged view ? Click on the Paginate link above the column headings - the index of messages will reload. |
| 12. What is my mailbox quota ? The standard mailbox quota is 20Mb. Additional mailbox space can be purchased for $1 per 5Mb. |
| 13. How do I see how much mailbox quota Im using ? There is a disk gauge under the Bway logo (top left) of the WebMail page, above the folder list. |
| 14. Im over quota but I can't delete any email ! Try emptying your Trash and Spam folders (use the Purge link next to the Spam folder, then click the Purge link next to the Trash folder). If you want to delete messages, try deleting them in small "batches" of a few messages and emptying your Trash folder between batches. If you need to keep these messages, you may want to consider downloading them to your computer with some email software before deleting them from the server in WebMail. If you are having problems deleting anything, you may want to try temporarily switching off the Trash folder to stop deleted messages being copied there (Note: ALL of your folders combined contribute to your total mailbox quota). You can also call us and add more space to your mailbox quota ($1 per 5Mb). |
| 15. How do I get WebMail to display the size of each message ? Click on Options (top of page), then Index Order. Click on the Add button next to the Size option. Adding the Size column heading to your options will allow you to sort by message size - useful if you're trying to find the huge messages eating up your mailbox quota. The Index Order screen also allows you to remove or re-arrange the column headings when looking at the index by clicking on the remove or up and down links next to a column heading. |
| 16. I deleted all my emails by mistake - can I get them back ? If you deleted the emails using WebMail, and are using the Trash folder (which is the default setting unless you've changed it), then they may well be there. Click on the Trash folder to check. If the missing message(s) is(are) there, then select them, and then click the Move button to move them back to your inbox. |
| 17. How do I download or archive my email ? There are several ways to do this:
| 18. How do I switch on a vacation autoresponder ? Click on Options (top of page), then Forward and Vacation Options. Click the radio button next to Vacation Message enabled, write a suitable subject and message in the boxes below, then click the Modify Settings button. Note: the vacation responder keeps track of who has sent you email and will only send back one response per sender per week. |
| 19. How do I switch off my vacation autoresponder ? Click on Options (top of page), then Forward and Vacation Options. Click the radio button next to Normal Delivery (if you have spam filtering enabled then click the Enable SpamAssassin checkbox below), then click the Modify Settings button. |
| 20. How can I forward all my emails to another email address ? Click on Options, then Forward and Vacation Options. Click on the radio button next to Forwarding enabled to address:, add the forwarding address to the text box next to it (you may choose to save a local copy too by clicking the Save a copy when forwarding checkbox below), then click the Modify Settings button at the bottom of the page. |
| 21. How do I switch on / off spam filtering ? Click on Options, then Spam Filtering. Click the Enable or Disable SpamAssassin checkbox, then click the Submit button underneath. To switch it off, repeat the same steps but uncheck the checkbox instead. You may also switch spam filtering on / off from the Forward and Vacation options page. |
| 22. Where are spam messages stored ? When spam filtering is enabled, the first incoming message identified as spam causes the system to create a Spam folder in your folder list - all subsequent spam messages are stored there. |
| 23. How long are spam messages stored ? We have a nightly process that deletes messages in your spam folder that are older than 2 weeks. |
| 24. How do I lower the length of time spam messages are stored ? Click on Options, then Spam Filtering. Adjust the time in the Days to Save Spam pulldown then click the Save Settings button underneath. The lowest setting is 1 day (meaning that spam messages older than a day will be removed every night). |
| 25. Can I just tell the system to delete all spams immediately ? There is no direct way of setting this via WebMail, however you can email us to have this setup on your mailbox. Also if you prefer to have spam messages saved in your regular inbox instead of a Spam folder, then email your request to our tech support email address (tech AT bway.net) with your Bway username. |
| 26. What are false positives ? A false positive is where a legitimate email is flagged as a spam message by mistake. You can whitelist email addresses that are incorrectly flagged as spam. Since our spam filtering uses statistical (Bayesian) analysis, its possible that a legitimate email will look "spammy", especially email sent in HTML format containing certain trigger words. Any email marked as spam usually contains a report in its headers (you can tell WebMail to display these headers by clicking on View Full Header when reading the email). The spam report is in the X-Spam-Report: header showing which tests added to the spam score. (For more information on what these tests mean, go to this web site). By default, any spam scoring 5 or more is marked as spam but you can adjust that anywhere from 1 (very strict) to 10 (very lax). |
| 27. How do I whitelist a friend's email address ? Click on Options, then Spam Filtering. Enter the friend's email address Address: field in the Add New Address section of the page (ensure Whitelist From) is set underneath), then click Add New Address button. The email address will listed in your Personal Allow / Deny Address List on this page. You can also use this feature to blacklist email addresses too, by selecting Blacklist Fromi in the Type: pulldown under the |
| 28. How do I lower my spam score ? Click on Options, then Spam Filtering. Adjust your spam score by clicking on the Spam Score pulldown in the General Settings section of the page, then click the Save Settings button underneath. |
| 29. How do I switch on / off virus filtering ? Currently, while we are introducing our virii filtering option, we do not yet have a way of setting this from WebMail. Email your request to our tech support team (tech AT bway.net) to have that added or removed (please remember to include your username in all such requests). |
