Orson Welles wrote, produced, directed, designed and starred in an astonishing array of film subjects. In this movie, Touch of Evil, Welles portrayed the corrupt police captain Hank Quinlan.
Chimes at Midnight, Welles' brooding portrayel of a famous Shakespearean comic character, Falstaff. This was one of Orson's favorite roles.

Though he neither produced nor directed, Welle's presence in "The Third Man" in the title role made this film the masterpiece that it is.

"In Italy for thirty yeard under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love; they had five hundred years of democracy and peace and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

-- Orson Welles (Harry Lime's speech in "The Third Man.")

No Welles filmography would be complete without inclusion of his most famous movie Citizen Kane. In 1998, The American Film Institute again elected Citizen Kane as the greatest American film ever made.
